England reached the World Cup semi-finals as Jude Bellingham took centre stage with a decisive double against Norway. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that Thomas Tuchel criticised the display, comments that have sharpened tensions despite progress.
Bellingham levelled after collecting Anthony Gordon’s pass, driving into the box and finishing low. He then completed the turnaround following a glaring error from goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland, taking his tournament tally to six.
The Real Madrid midfielder pushed back at his manager’s view, suggesting Tuchel might not appreciate how hard it was to play in those conditions or against Erling Haaland, Martin Ødegaard, Antonio Nusa and Alexander Sørloth. He said the opposition were not easy to face.
Bellingham added that the squad are trying to maintain a positive environment as focus switches to a semi-final meeting with Argentina. He urged that the team should continue along that line.
Earlier, when asked about Tuchel’s claim that England had some luck, Bellingham declined to comment. He argued England will not dominate every game with endless passing and that sometimes wins must be ground out.
