Former Italy international Andrea Belotti finally made his first ever appearance in the Champions League on Wednesday night, coming off the bench as a second-half substitute in Benfica’s 1-0 win over Monaco.
The 31-year-old appeared as a second-half substitute, replacing Vangelis Pvalidis for the final 12 minutes of Benfica’s 1-0 win away at the Stade Louis II.
Belotti spent the years between 2015 and 2022 with Torino, during which time the Granata failed to qualify for any European competition, other than three rounds of qualifying for the Europa League in 2019.
He would go on to spend the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons with Roma, which resulted in runs to the Europa League final and semi-finals respectively.
Out of favour by the end of his time at the Stadio Olimpico, Belotti moved to Como at the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign, but struggled to dislodge Patrick Cutrone from the starting line-up, and so joined Benfica on loan for the remainder of the season.
He has since appeared off the bench in Benfica’s 3-2 win against Moreirense in the league, and the 1-0 win over Monaco in the Champions League.
