Benfica and Borussia Dortmund ‘open talks’ for 17-year-old Gilberto Mora | OneFootball

Benfica and Borussia Dortmund are vying to sign Gilberto Mora, the 17-year-old Mexico youth international at Club Tijuana.

TUDN reports that any move to Europe can only happen after he turns 18 on 14 October, in line with FIFA rules on under-age international transfers.

Benfica have already made exploratory contacts over the midfielder and, along with Dortmund, have held initial talks with his agent, Rafaela Pimenta. The report added that negotiations remain embryonic and there is no formal offer from the Lisbon club.

The interest fits Benfica’s recent recruitment approach, targeting high-upside prospects and seeking to move ahead of rivals.

Dortmund are also monitoring Mora closely, backed by a track record of developing young talent. On that basis, both clubs appear to be at the front of the queue for the teenager.
