Benfica have asked the Portuguese Football Federation’s Disciplinary Board to clarify the sporting consequences and sanctions to be applied to Porto in the so-called emails case. The club said in a statement on Friday that it had sought an explanation for the continued absence of disciplinary decisions.

The most recent Clássico also carried consequences for Benfica.

Between April 2017 and February 2018, FC Porto SAD’s then communications director used official club channels to repeatedly publish material obtained illicitly, alongside serious allegations of corruption, manipulation of referees and the adulteration of sporting truth.

Those actions are presented as having been carried out in the course of duties, with the knowledge, validation and public backing of Porto SAD’s board, indicating coordinated conduct rather than isolated incidents.

The disciplinary case was opened in late 2017 but, to date, has not advanced. With a court decision now final, the view set out is that no further facts remain to be established.

An immediate and unequivocal ruling is urged, reflecting the gravity of facts confirmed in court.
