The Portuguese Football Federation’s Disciplinary Board has opened proceedings against Benfica following a complaint from the federation’s Refereeing Council over public comments made by the club.
According to Glorioso 1904, the case relates to statements issued via the club’s media channels after Sporting v Santa Clara on three April, refereed by André Narciso.
Benfica used social media to voice displeasure, posting the message "Já nem há vergonha". That reaction prompted action from the relevant bodies.
The disciplinary submission was filed by the Refereeing Council on six April, then forwarded to Liga Portugal’s Commission of Instructors. The case was sent on 10 April, moving into a new phase of analysis and investigation.
It will now be assessed whether the club’s remarks breach current regulations. The outcome remains uncertain, but the case places Benfica back at the centre of an off-pitch row and could reignite debate on refereeing and freedom of expression.
