The Portuguese FA’s disciplinary council has fined Benfica 1,530 euros after a supporter stole the match ball in unusual fashion. According to Glorioso 1904, the incident occurred during the rescheduled third matchday fixture at Estádio Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas.
Benfica beat Moreirense by an emphatic margin, yet events off the pitch triggered firm action from the national sporting authorities.
The sanction stemmed from behaviour in specific areas of the ground, namely Topo Norte and Central Nascente. The official file cited multiple infractions identified by security during the game, with punishment confirmed once match delegates had completed their process.
Among the incidents, a female Benfica fan tried to hide the ball under her red t-shirt. Stadium CCTV captured the moment, she was identified on site and issued with a formal notice of administrative offence.
Authorities also reported the seizure of drugs from three individuals, and denied entry to 10 supporters with blood-alcohol levels above 0.8 grams per litre.
Moreirense were fined 393 euros after one spectator was barred from the central stand for exceeding the permitted alcohol limit. Despite the sanctions, the team led by Marco Silva remains focused on its Liga Portugal Betclic campaign.
