Benfica have loaned 20-year-old goalkeeper Diogo Carrera to AMSAC for 2026/27, according to Glorioso 1904. The second division move is designed to secure more minutes and speed his development.
A Benfica academy graduate, Carrera rose through every age group to the B team and senior squad. He played 16 times for the first team and 19 for the B team last season.
His standout moment came in the Liga Placard final against Sporting. In the third game, he entered for the penalty shootout, replacing Léo Gugiel, and saved two efforts, including Zicky Té’s, to keep Benfica in the fight.
Head coach Cassiano Klein praised his humility and said he deserved the moment. The display made Carrera an unlikely hero in Benfica’s pursuit of back-to-back titles.
The Portugal youth international has 39 caps across age groups and is regarded as one of the country’s leading prospects in his position. He even scored for the B team, a rarity for a goalkeeper.
The move is seen as important for his growth. Regular senior futsal should help him gain experience before he returns to compete for a permanent first-team place.
