According to Record, Benfica have suffered another transfer setback, with Estoril centre-back Kévin Boma joining Salzburg on a contract to June 2031 after the chase for Ibrahima Ba also slipped away. Rui Costa’s hierarchy will now need to step up the hunt for a defender.
The Togo international had been on Benfica’s list after a run of eye-catching displays for Estoril in the Portuguese league. The 23-year-old centre-half is no longer an option for the Lisbon club.
Boma played 23 games last season, scoring one goal and providing one assist, numbers that drew interest from several European sides.
With centre-back options reduced, Benfica will pivot to other identified targets to bolster the back line. The club continue working to give Marco Silva more solutions before the campaign begins.
After losing two profiles admired by the football department, the SAD are preparing a renewed push for another central defender. The objective is unchanged, to find a signing who raises competition and fits the new coach’s ideas.
