Benfica are closely tracking Sporting’s disciplinary picture before the derby, with Gonçalo Inácio and Ousmane Diomande one booking from suspension when they face Estrela da Amadora on Saturday, according to Glorioso 1904.
The meeting forms part of the 30th round of the Liga Portugal Betclic, and ticket information has recently been updated.
The situation adds pressure to Rui Borges’s selection, as he weighs sticking with first-choice defenders or turning to alternatives to avoid absences against Benfica. He has indicated the priority is physical management rather than disciplinary caution.
Last season, with a similar risk, he left Morten Hjulmand out against Gil Vicente, which kept the midfielder available for the subsequent derby.
This term he took a different tack. Before visiting Porto, he started Pedro Gonçalves and Luis Suárez against Nacional despite the threat of suspension, and both avoided bookings while helping secure a win.
Before the derby, scheduled for 19 April at 18:00, Benfica play Nacional on Sunday, 12 April, at 18:00 at Estádio da Luz in the 29th round.
