Benfica ‘not targeting’ Edson Álvarez as midfield search continues | OneFootball

Benfica are not pursuing West Ham midfielder Edson Álvarez, despite reports in Germany linking him with a move. Sky Sports Germany had suggested interest, but O Jogo says the 28-year-old is not on the club’s shortlist.

Benfica remain active in the market after adding Jhon Durán in attack, with a defensive midfielder and a centre-back still on the agenda.

These priorities have been set by Marco Silva as he finalises plans for 2026/27.

Álvarez is also being monitored by Cologne.

João Palhinha remains Silva’s preferred choice in midfield, though the deal has become complicated. Aston Villa have started talks with Bayern and currently look well placed to sign the Portugal international. Bayern believe richer bids could arrive than Benfica would make, further weakening the Lisbon club’s chances.
