Benfica secure new deal for 18-year-old Rui Silva | OneFootball

Benfica have renewed the contract of 18-year-old centre-back Rui Silva, with the length of the new deal undisclosed.

Silva is in his ninth season with the club and has featured this term for the under-19s, under-23s, who recently endured a heavy defeat, and the B team.

"This renewal is very important for me, with the club that has been with me for many years and has been my home," he told BTV.

Recruited in 2017/18 from Abambres SC, where he began his football path, he first joined Benfica’s Viseu training centre, then moved to the Benfica Campus in 2019/20.

"I feel I have improved a lot since I arrived at Benfica, psychologically, technically and competitively. It is a club that saw me grow and kept helping me to grow. I think I am strong in one v one defending, good in the air in both boxes, and an intelligent player as well."

"I have very good memories linked to the club, from the CFT and the friends I have made, and clearly the trophies we have won. Last year’s Taça Revelação was very important for us and I really enjoyed it."

Still an under-19, Silva is in his first season integrated with the B team and has made 26 appearances this campaign, 10 in Liga 2, eight in the UEFA Youth League, six in Liga Revelação and two in the Premier League International Cup.
