SportsBoom and Ekrem Konur report that Benfica are tracking Arsenal centre-back Cristhian Mosquera as a possible replacement for Nicolás Otamendi. The Spaniard previously shared a dressing room with Enzo Barrenechea at Valencia.
Otamendi’s future, with the player waiting on Rui Costa, remains unresolved ahead of the summer window. That uncertainty has prompted fresh rumours.
Mosquera has recently won his first Spain cap. He is the third centre-back in Arsenal’s hierarchy, behind William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães.
With minutes limited, the 21-year-old could leave on loan this summer, and Benfica have been named as the most likely destination.
Benfica’s defence has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. The futures of António Silva and Otamendi are uncertain, with no renewals agreed. For now, Tomás Araújo may be the only certainty for 2026/27.
This season for Arsenal, Mosquera, valued at 35 million euros, has played 27 matches, 15 in the Premier League, seven in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and two in the League Cup. He has no goal contributions across 1,532 minutes.
