With Nicolás Otamendi’s future uncertain, Benfica have begun scoping centre-back signings and are monitoring Viery at Grêmio.
Record writes that the 21-year-old appeals to Rui Costa’s hierarchy and has been flagged as a potential addition. Grêmio, the club coached by Luís Castro, want around 20 million euros, a figure Benfica currently view as too high.
For now, Benfica are not expected to advance for Viery, preferring to review other options before any final decision.
A backline reshuffle is expected, given the potential exit of Nicolás Otamendi and a possible sale of António Silva. The club have not agreed renewals with either player.
This season with Grêmio, Viery, valued at 3 million euros, has made 18 competitive appearances, nine in the Brasileirão, seven in the Gaúcho, one in the Taça Sul-Americana and one in the Taça do Brasil. Across 1,574 minutes he has one goal and one assist.
