Benfica host Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie tonight.
Bruno Lage’s side will be out for revenge at The Estádio da Luz. In January, Benfica lost a Champions League classic against Barcelona in the Portuguese capital.
Vangelis Pavlidis scored a first-half hat-trick for Barcelona but still ended up on the losing side, as the Spanish side staged a stunning comeback to win a 5-4 thriller.
Benfica are seeking to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the third time in four seasons.
However, Barcelona arrive in good form. The Catalans lead the La Liga title race and have won six straight games in Spain’s top division.
Bruno Lage has been dealt a blow with Angel Di Maria ruled out of the clash. The veteran winger has been in terrific form this season with 11 goals and five assists. Bruma is likely to deputise in the wide areas, providing support alongside Kerem Aktürkoğlu to leading scorer Pavlidis. The latter has seven goals in the Champions League this season.
Florentino Luis is also out due to a thigh injury. The midfielder was set to return from a ban but is currently sidelined with the muscular issue. He joins Alexander Bah and Manu Silva in the treatment room for Benfica.

Benfica host Barcelona in the Champions League’s Round of 16 on Wednesday 5th March 2025. Kick-off in Lisbon is 20:00 GMT.
