Infantino insists players are 'loving' the Club World Cup
Benfica enjoyed a first-ever win over Bayern Munich in a decisive Group C clash at the Club World Cup, with the Portuguese side topping the group as a result.
21-year-old Andreas Schjelderup’s 13th-minute goal made the difference as keeper Anatolii Trubin made a series of inspired saves to keep out the German giants.
Bayern had already guaranteed a spot in the next stage of the competition and manager Vincent Kompany made seven changes from their 2-1 win over Boca Juniors last time out, but he brought on the big guns in Harry Kane, Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise in the second half to try to wrestle back control.
But Benfica defended doggedly to seal all three points and leapfrog Bayern in the table. They will play the winners of Chelsea or ES Tunis in the next stage, while Bayern face Flamengo.
Vincent Kompany tells DAZN, “I think our first half wasn't good at all. With the pitch and the heat, I just feared this wouldn't go as fluid as normal but I was still confident for the second half. We created so much and played really well. It’s football. If you have chances and don't take them, you pay the price.”
Asked whether it was the plan to bring on heavyweights Kimmich, Kane and Olise at half-time, or if they were introduced sooner than he would like, he says, “It was the plan. I’d rather finish strong because I knew it would start slow. I was definitely confident this is what we needed to do. I can't take anything from this game.
Bayern face Flamengo next, and he says, “It was either Flamengo or Chelsea. It’s going to be a tough game. We know we can create the chances.
“Anyway, we were dominant, we created more chances, we didn't win. We can't afford for this to happen but we still take momentum into the next game.”

86 mins: Bayern keep pushing for an equaliser. Laimer’s long looping cross seems destined for Kane’s head and into the goal - but with the Englishman inches away from it, Antonio Silva heads it away!
Laimer finds Kane again but he’s outmuscled by Otamendi along the right flank.
Now Sane blasts over the bar and makes a small child’s day as he catches the ball.
