The post-Ruben Amorim era showed flashes of promise, but eventually, Manchester United had to be satisfied with only a point from their Premier League encounter against Burnley on Wednesday.
Under the lights at Turf Moor, it was the home side who took the lead through a lucky deflection, against the run of play.
The visitors should have scored twice before half-time, but Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha were denied by goalline clearances.
But then, in the second half, it was the Benjamin Sesko show, as the Slovenian scored twice in 10 minutes to hand the Red Devils the lead.
The Clarets ended up equalising, but fans were pleased to finally see the Slovenia international return to scoring ways after a difficult last few weeks.
During the post-match interaction with BBC, the ex-RB Leipzig striker stated as much, while revealing his delight to end his drought in front of goal.
“It helps me for my confidence,” the striker said. “It’s been tough, but now I finally did it and I’m happy I could help the team.
“This is the most important for me and now it’s just up to me and up to us to keep going like that.”
There were improvements, both individually, as seen from Sesko and Dorgu’s performance, and as a team, especially from an attacking perspective.
It was helped by interim boss Darren Fletcher’s brave substitutions. And the United striker told Sky Sports that it is now up to the team to continue this positive momentum moving forward.
“Now it’s up to us. Obviously, to stand together as a group, to really show we can work together no matter what situation.
“In the end, it’s just important for us to focus on the upcoming games, upcoming trainings. That’s the most important.”
United will seen next in action in the FA Cup, with a home tie against Brighton on Sunday. Fletcher is expected to remain in charge for the game.
