Betis have terminated Chimy Ávila’s contract a year early, leaving the 32-year-old free to find a new club.
According to Superdeporte, a clause allowed the Andalusian side to cancel the final season by paying 50,000 euros.
The Spanish-Argentine was among LaLiga’s standout forwards soon after joining Osasuna, but two serious injuries halted a 2019/20 winter move to Barcelona and derailed his momentum.
Pellegrini’s Betis signed him in January 2024 for 4.7 million euros to add his combative edge. He scored three goals last season and four the year before, and never secured a regular place at the Benito Villamarín.
He will have suitors, albeit below Betis’ level. Getafe were strongly linked in the last winter window, but a lack of reinforcements for Pellegrini kept him in Seville and he was ready to go. They could now return without club-to-club talks, and his profile suits Bordalás, who will lead a European campaign with a squad needing low-cost additions.
Boca Juniors and Racing also contacted his camp months ago and could try again, especially with Cavani leaving La Bombonera.
