For the second season in a row, an Italian player has won the English title as Calafiori has succeeded Federico Chiesa, who had lifted the trophy with Liverpool in the 2024-25 campaign.

Back in the 2011-12 season, Mario Balotelli won the Premier League title with Manchester City, scoring 13 goals in 23 league matches and providing the assist for Sergio Aguero’s late winning goal in a home Serie A match against QPR.

Premier League winners: The Italians with no winners’ medal

Other Italian players had previously won the Premier League, but didn’t make the minimum number of league appearances to receive a winners’ medal.

Federico Macheda’s Manchester United became English champions in 2008-09 when the Italian striker was only 16.

In 2009-10, the 18-year-old Fabio Borini made four appearances with Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea and a few years earlier, in 2004-05 and 2005-06, Carlo Cudicini had won the title as the Blues’ second-choice goalkeeper under José Mourinho, collecting just seven appearances in two seasons.

Massimo Taibi, another second-choice keeper, made four appearances in 1999-00, and when the Red Devil won the title, Taibi had already returned to Reggina.
