The Juventus Men’s First Team drew 0-0 with FC Basel in Switzerland to begin their preparations for the 2026/27 season.
The two major flashpoints in the contest came in the second half, when Basel’s Philip Otele failed to score from the penalty spot, and then goalkeeper Mirko Salvi was sent off with less than 10 minutes to play.
The first chance of the match came in the 8th minute, when Ludwig Malachowski shot from the edge of the box but failed to hit the target. After a slow-paced start, Juventus grew into the game and, in the 14th minute, threatened with a cross from the right by Pierre Kalulu, which was cleared by the Basel defence. Three minutes later, the Bianconeri built up play down the left, but Edon Zhegrova failed to connect with the ball with his head.
In the 20th minute, Vasilije Adzic shot from close range: his effort was straight down the middle and the goalkeeper saved it. A few minutes later, Juventus created another good chance: Jeremie Boga linked up with Andrea Cambiaso on the left and shot from the edge of the box, only for Jonas Omlin to make a diving save, tipping the ball away for a corner.
During the first half, Jeff Ekhator was forced to leave the pitch with a thigh niggle, with Lois Openda coming on in his place. The substitute immediately looked to pose a threat, but the Basel defence closed him down well. In the 38th minute, Cambiaso was booked for dangerous play and, two minutes later, tested the goalkeeper with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box, sending the ball just wide. In the closing stages, it was Michele Di Gregorio who came to the rescue, saving Xherdan Shaqiri’s free-kick aimed at the far post. The first half ended 0–0, with Juventus looking the more dangerous, particularly through chances created by Boga and Cambiaso.
At the start of the second half, Luciano Spalletti made ten changes: Mattia Perin, Joao Mario, Daniele Rugani, Juan Cabal, Jonas Rouhi, Arthur, Fabio Miretti, Adin Licina, Arek Milik and Justin Oboavwoduo came on in place of Di Gregorio, Kalulu, Federico Gatti, Lloyd Kelly, Cambiaso, Douglas Luiz, Manuel Locatelli, Zhegrova, Adzic and Boga. The Bianconeri started the second half at a good pace and Miretti capitalised on a moment of indecision in the Swiss defence, finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper but failing to find the net. Shortly afterwards, Joao Mario also had a go from the left, but his shot was punched away.
In the 56th minute, Openda shot from outside the box, only for the goalkeeper to make the save. Two minutes later, Basel had the chance to take the lead: Arthur committed a foul in the box, but Perin saved Otele’s penalty to keep the score at 0–0. In the 63rd minute, Oboavwoduo shot from the edge of the box, forcing the goalkeeper to tip the ball away for a corner. Five minutes later, Perin was once again in the thick of the action, closing down Leo Leroy’s run in from the left at the near post.
