The Rams are drawing closer to finding external investment after it was first revealed in September that Clowes wants to sell 80% of his shares.

Derby County are getting closer to securing outside investment to help continue the club's rebuild, three years after David Clowes took them out of administration.

That's according to The Telegraph's John Percy, who has reported that there is 'growing confidence' that a deal will be worked with an external party soon, with a number of talks ongoing.

This comes after it was revealed by Percy in September that the 55-year-old was seeking investment to help the East Midlands outfit move closer to where they were in the past in terms of league standing, and help them compete at the upper end of the Championship.

So far, this season has been one to forget for Derby, and with just 11 games left in the second tier, they are seven-points off Cardiff City, who sit just outside the drop zone. Blackburn Rovers make the trip to Pride Park on Saturday, as John Eustace welcomes his former team to his new home ground for the very first time.

Clowes and Derby drawing closer to investment

Following the report earlier this season that Clowes is looking to sell 80% of the club, there has been relatively little news about the progress that has been made.

However, sources close to Percy have said that a deal is drawing closer and it could happen in the very near future.

Nevertheless, Derby's owner remains committed to the project that he started in July 2022 and he is still putting £13m of his own money in each season to fund the club. He is willing to do this for the next three years at the very least, but he has made no secret of wanting to bring in outside investment to help the Rams progress.

Eustace and the recruitment team have already started to draw up plans for the summer, with both survival and relegation in mind, but the former is likely to allow financial help to come in quicker as the club is more attractive if they are in the Championship.

The new Derby head coach has been working hard to ensure that his team have a fighting chance, spending 12 hours a day at the training ground, Moor Farm, to help with the great escape.

Derby are a work in progress

Although staying in the Championship is a must, the Rams are in safe hands with Clowes at the head of the club and he has shown that he remains committed to the long-term plan.

It has only been three years since Derby came out of administration, and while this cannot be used as a constant excuse, compared to their rivals, they have been on the back foot for a number of years already.

This summer is incredibly crucial to the Rams' long-term success with a huge change to the squad more than likely about to unfold and Eustace has to have a say in the direction that they go in terms of recruitment.

While the situation on the pitch currently looks dire, Derby can still find a way out of the bottom three in the coming weeks, but wins need to come quickly and supporters must stick with the team to help with that.
