Birmingham City are reportedly interested in the services of Fenerbahce's Bright Osayi-Samuel on a free transfer
Birmingham City have entered talks over a deal for Fenerbahce wide-man Bright Osayi-Samuel in what could shape up to be yet another exciting addition to Chris Davies' side.
As reported on Sunday morning by Football Insider journalist Pete O'Rourke, Birmingham are in talks to sign Osayi-Samuel on a free transfer as he prepares to leave the Turkish giants following three years with the club.
The ex-QPR star is just the latest player to be linked with a switch to St Andrews @ Knighthead Park, with hugely popular owners Knighthead eyeing up yet another blockbuster summer transfer window after last term's spending spree to spearhead the subsequent record-breaking League One title-winning campaign with a stunning points haul of 111.
Earlier this week, Football League World exclusively revealed that Birmingham are poised to complete the loan signing of impressive Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle, while winger Demarai Gray is also set to return to the Second City in a sensational summer reunion.
Birmingham have the financial muscle to make serious waves in this summer's window, and will be looking to make as many exciting acquisitions as possible in order to try their hand for successive promotions from League One to the top-flight.
According to Football Insider's report, Birmingham have moved to try and return Osayi-Samuel to English football after a proposed move to cross-Istanbul rivals Besiktas fell through.
The 27-year-old is set to leave José Mourinho's side once his contract officially expires on June 30, which has alerted a host of clubs. Back in February, Premier League outfit Fulham reportedly saw a mid-season offer rejected as Fenerbahce were not willing to part ways during the campaign, although he's now lined up to leave Turkey and Birmingham are looking to swoop.
It's said that Blues view the versatile wide-man as a "key addition" to their plans to compete for promotion next term, with Davies keen to recruit a right-back with top-level experience.
Osayi-Samuel, who has been capped on 22 occasions by Nigeria at senior international level since making his debut against Portugal in 2022, made 39 appearances last season across all competitions under iconic boss Mourinho.
He has taken up a more defensive role at Fenerbahce, having first made his name in the EFL as a tricky winger with Blackpool and QPR.
Osayi-Samuel caught the eye during his four years at Loftus Road, which prompted a move to Fenerbahce in January 2021.
Now, though, it looks like a return to England, and indeed the Championship, is very much on the cards.
The signing of Osayi-Samuel could turn out to represent a real coup for Birmingham, who would make yet another clear statement of intent in the process.
At 27, Osayi-Samuel is now in his prime years and is no longer the tricky, flamboyant but somewhat-inconsistent winger we saw at QPR - he's a seasoned and rounded all-action right-back who has accumulated years of experience at one of the biggest clubs outside of Europe's traditional top-five divisions and has also featured regularly in continental competition.
