Blues' young striker has impressed on international duty this week

Birmingham City's first season back in the Championship has been full of ups and downs, and as a result, their campaign has, to an extent, already fizzled out regarding a push for one of the play-off positions.

After storming League One last term with a record-breaking transfer spend and a remarkable points total of 111, much was expected of Chris Davies' side ahead of the current campaign.

This was particularly the case after another summer of eye-catching transfer business, which was further backed up in the January window after an inconsistent first half of the campaign.

Whilst seeing numerous players on the fringes of Davies' squad depart for pastures new, Blues welcomed six fresh faces to St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, as well as turning Patrick Roberts' initial loan switch from Sunderland into a permanent transfer.

It must be said that, in terms of the future, the most exciting of those six additions came when the West Midlands side fought tooth and nail to sign August Priske from Swedish Allsvenskan side, Djurgardens IF.

It was well-documented that Birmingham had fended off competition from the likes of Besiktas and LOSC Lille for the £6m acquisition, but two-and-a-half months into his five-and-a-half year deal in B9, Priske has only started three Championship outings, and also impressed in the FA Cup fifth round tie against Premier League opposition in Leeds United.

It is fair to say, though, that whilst Bluenoses are certainly divided at this moment in time as to whether Davies is the right man to continue leading the club forward, they were all largely in agreement with the talent the young striker showcased on international duty with Denmark's Under-21s side.

The closest the 22-year-old has come to opening his Blues account came when his last-gasp header against West Bromwich Albion on February 10th was ruled out for an offside against Demarai Gray.

As such, a neat close-range finish for his country against Wales' Under-21s in the 86th minute in a 4-0 success in an UEFA European Championship qualifier on Tuesday night got plenty of supporters talking about how he needs to be involved and utilised moving forward.

One supporter was keen to congratulate Priske above all else, issuing the message of: "Well done August. Hope you can do the same for us."

Another Bluenose was quick to reference the nickname which he adopted at Djurgardens, issuing the quick response of: "*Jesus*"

However, others were also of the opinion that Priske wouldn't be in the position to score such a goal for Blues, given how Davies' style of play has frustrated supporters in recent weeks.

One was of the opinion that Priske and club-record signing, Jay Stansfield, should start matches as a front-two, saying: "we need to play him with Stanno and play to their strengths"

Another supporter was rather critical of Davies' philosophy whilst watching Priske's strike, issuing the verdict of: "But Chris Davies will tell blues to pass around and not get it into the box to him."

Although Blues don't appear to have much to play for in the coming weeks, there will still be a strong desire from Davies and his players to finish the season on a high note.

With seven matches remaining, the club can still finish in its highest position since 2015/16, which is still an incentive, whilst Priske will also have the added incentive of getting off the mark.

After missing the 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on March 10th, the striker has only played 32 minutes of action since then against Sheffield United and Derby County, and will be hoping he is in line to make his fourth start under Davies sooner rather than later.

The earlier the highly-rated forward also gets off the mark is also likely to impact his goalscoring feats moving forward too, something which Blues fans and Davies are all too aware of at this moment in time.
