A new update has emerged on Marvin Ducksch's future ahead of a potential exit from Birmingham City this summer

Yet another summer of considerable change and transfer trading awaits at Birmingham City following an underwhelming 2025/26 Championship campaign, which saw Chris Davies' expensively-assembled side fall some way short of competing for promotion.

Blues chairman Tom Wagner notably made little secret of the club's intention to stake a claim for successive promotions from League One to the Premier League after achieving a record-breaking points-haul en-route to sealing the third-tier title last year, and acquiring the likes of Tommy Doyle, Kyogo Furuhashi and Demarai Gray served as yet another reminder of the considerable ambition and expenditure being fuelled at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

However, a number of Birmingham's high-profile recruits failed to return expectation in a disappointing campaign, in which the Second City outfit ultimately finished nine points shy of sixth-placed Hull City in 10th.

Blues' key decision-makers have been brazen and bullish in pursuit of a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2011, and will stop at nothing to achieve those ambitions. It means, then, that thorough assessments of the playing squad will be undertaken in the coming weeks ahead of a decisive, and yet another hotly-anticipated summer transfer window in B9, where a range of players could well depart from before the season commences in August.

One player who has been linked with the exit door in recent times is Marvin Ducksch, whose move to Birmingham from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen last summer was first revealed exclusively by Football League World.

The two-cap German international endured a mixed debut campaign in the West Midlands, finishing as Birmingham's joint-top goalscorer in the Championship with ten strikes while also losing his place to January arrival August Priske and making headlines away from the pitch when he was arrested and charged with drink-driving in the wake of his side's Easter Monday defeat to Ipswich Town.

No shortage of clubs have been touted to potentially make a move for Ducksch as of late, and a new update has now emerged regarding the 32-year-old's future at Blues.

Back in March, prior to the aforementioned off-field incident, it was reported by German outlet BILD that Ducksch had earned a wide range of suitors.

The report credited unnamed Bundesliga and MLS sides, alongside Real Sociedad of La Liga and AEK Athens, with an interest in landing Ducksch's signature in the summer window.

Nothing, it would appear, has come from that apparent interest as of yet, although further updates have now transpired and, if Birmingham are indeed actively looking to offload the striker in the near future, he seemingly has a fair share of takers.

The latest update has come from German broadcaster RTL/ntv, which has claimed that second-tier side Hertha BSC have registered their own interest in Ducksch ahead of a potential move this summer.

Exactly how far advanced that interest really is only remains to be seen, although an increasing number of admirers will only further intensify speculation regarding Ducksch's future and the possibility of an exit after completing his first season in English football.

It's no surprise to see clubs from the forward's native Germany keeping a close eye on his situation and his pedigree remains hugely impressive, as he recorded a combined total of 32 goals and 23 assists throughout three Bundesliga campaigns with Werder Bremen.

Formerly of the likes of Holsten Keil and Hannover 96, Ducksch also has an extremely prolific record in Bundesliga II, in which Hertha missed out on promotion from in the season just gone, meaning he's sure to represent an attractive proposition for sides back in the homeland.

Marvin Ducksch's Birmingham City exit may suit all parties

Ducksch's own immediate and long-term future in Davies' squad remains firmly up in the air right now, as the Borussia Dortmund academy product was initially omitted from the side following his drink-driving arrest and was an unused substitute for each of Blues' final three matches of the season.

Priske, who penned a five-and-a-half year contract to join from Swedish side Djugardens IF in a reported £6 million deal, has emerged as Davies' first-choice frontman in recent months despite only opening his goalscoring account against Portsmouth on the final day.

The 22-year-old Dane does, however, represent a more viable long-term option than Ducksch, and Bluenoses are expecting big things from the promising forward next time out.

Ducksch himself put pen to paper on a three-year deal and that could pose problems for Birmingham, but there have been consistent suggestions that City may look to cut their losses in the summer months and may be pleased that more clubs appear to be joining the race for his services.
