The Blues X admin was quick to fire back at one Aston Villa fan in their replies

As is the case with football rivalries, things are never fully settled on the pitch.

Fans are often quick to criticise and mock their rivals on social media platforms if they lose a game, reminding them if they won that weekend and bringing up old results and matches to help shape a narrative.

Between Birmingham City and Aston Villa fans, the Second City derby is never relevant for just 90 minutes twice a season, if they're both in the same division. On X, fans of both clubs like to get one over each other daily.

That doesn't just stop at fans, however, as social media admins like to get in on the act now and then too, as seen through Birmingham's X admin replying to an Aston Villa troll tweet in response to something they had posted.

Throughout international breaks, teams without a game to play often look to use archived footage and interactive content to help pass the time, and Birmingham did so today (October 13th) to ask their fans: "What is a goal you often think about?"

Within the replies, Birmingham fans flocked to show their appreciation towards different Blues goals, but one Aston Villa fan replied to the tweet with a goal from a 21-year-old Gary Cahill when he played for Villa during their 3-1 win in April 2006.

A good goal, but not one which kept in with the theme, and one that the Blues admin was quick to reply to, stating that the overhead kick effort from the centre-back was "clearly offside."

Some nice, friendly banter online between the two to begin the week, with the Villa fan then putting forward Alan Hutton's solo effort in the 4-2 win in the last derby to take place at Villa Park in November 2018.

Football fans will be desperate for the Second City Derby to return to the Premier League soon

Given Birmingham's current 14-year exile from the Premier League, the Second City derby has been a rare occurrence, other than a three-year period when the two were in the second tier together.

Villa won four of those six meetings, and the other two were draws, meaning that Birmingham will be champing at the bit to get a win over their fierce rivals for the first time since 2010, and the first time in league action since 2005, when the two meet again.

Given the ambitions and backing surrounding the Blues currently, you'd imagine that it won't be long before they are reacquainted in the Premier League, and all eyes will be on that matchup when it does return.

For now, though, fun battles on X are what fans have to make do with, and you'd bet on the altercations having a little more bite in them when they do end up in the top flight together.
