Birmingham City's owners have been praised after it was revealed a £72m cash injection has been put into the club.
Birmingham City are looking to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2011 this season.
After a miserable decade or so, which saw Blues regularly battling relegation to League One, and dealing with off-field issues caused by controversial owners, the Midlands outfit did drop to League One after a dismal 2024/25 campaign.
That actually came under their current owners, with Tom Wagner and his US group Knighthead Capital initially struggling to live up to their promises, and the decision to sack John Eustace and bring in Wayne Rooney was one major mistake they made.

However, it’s fair to say that they have learned from that experience, and the huge level of investment that has gone into Birmingham in the past few years means they go into the new season as one of the favourites for promotion.
Reaching the Premier League would just be the start for Blues, as Wagner has made it clear that the aim is to establish the club in the top flight, and then look to push on from there.
That ambition has been backed up by Blues’ aggressive approach in the transfer market in recent years, and, of course, a prospective new stadium that will hold over 60,000.
In a fresh development this week, it was also revealed that Blues’ owners had injected a further £72m into the club, and whilst it’s not clear what the money will be used for, it demonstrates the level of funding that those running the club boast.
And, when asked by FLW whether Blues are fortunate to have their current owners, Birmingham fan pundit Jason Moore admitted that they were, as he explained why all the pain they suffered in the past was worth it.
“We’re massively lucky. They’ve got the ambition of taking us to the Premier League, and making us a force, or attemtping to make us a force. It’s massive. Everything they do is massive.
“As much as Blues fans, in a very, very small way, might criticise them, we know we’re lucky to have them. To go from where we were to have them now, I don’t think we can believe how lucky we are.
“If you told us we’d take that much hate to end up with who we’ve got, we’d probably have taken it! It’s not just having owners who want to compete in the Championship, they want to do it in the Premier League consistenly. It’s refreshing to see, and it’s crazy to see what has happened to the club and fans when you have owners who want to invest. The fans get engaged.

“We all know we’re very lucky, and long may it continue. Hopefully, we will go really far with them.”
As mentioned, it’s not like Knighthead Capital haven’t made mistakes, but, crucially, nobody can deny that they have the best intentions.
They have put serious money into the club in recent years, and whether it’s wages or transfer fees, they have done what they can to improve the squad in every window, and that will no doubt happen again this summer.
From the perspective of the fans, that’s all you can ask for, and it’s clear that they have the wealth to back up their ambition.
When you add in the new stadium, and the plans they have to improve Birmingham as a club and a city, it’s fair to say that every Blues fan will echo the thoughts above, and recognise how lucky they are, particularly when you factor in the situation they were in prior to the takeover.
But, now it’s about delivering on the pitch, and Birmingham’s fans are doing their bit by selling out regularly, and they will head into the new season with a belief that promotion is a real possibility.
