Birmingham City are preparing for life back in the Championship following their promotion from League One last season.
Birmingham stormed to the League One title last season with an EFL-record total of 111 points, but while they are now back in the Championship, that is far from the extent of their ambitions, with owner Tom Wagner revealing that the club are targeting back-to-back promotions in the upcoming campaign.
The Blues have brought in seven new signings so far this summer in James Beadle, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Eiran Cashin, Tommy Doyle, Kanya Fujimoto, Demarai Gray and Kyogo Furuhashi, while the likes of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Emmanuel Longelo, Brandon Khela, Emil Hansson, Ayumu Yokoyama and Alfie May have departed after being deemed surplus to requirements by manager Chris Davies.
It seems Birmingham could now be prepared to part with another member of their promotion-winning squad, with GIVEMESPORT claiming that the club are willing to listen to offers for defender Krystian Bielik.
Bielik was handed the captain's armband by Davies after signing a new three-year contract last summer, but he fell out of favour over the course of last season, making just three league starts following the turn of the year, and he could now be on his way out of St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.
When asked for his thoughts on Bielik's potential departure, FLW's Birmingham City fan pundit Jason Moore claimed that he would be sad to see the 27-year-old leave the club, but he admitted that his exit would be the right move for all parties.
"It's probably the right decision for both parties," Jason told FLW.
"I think he said last season that he wasn't too keen on sitting on the bench, and he wants to be in the Poland national team, but that's not going to happen if he's sitting on the bench.
"I think it boils down to that ruthlessness that we've had so far in the transfer market, like with Alfie May going, and Krystian Bielik will probably be treated the same.
"If it was me, I'd probably keep him, purely because he can play at centre-back and in midfield.
"But if he wants to play regular football, and he's probably not going to get that at centre-back or in midfield, then it's probably best for all parties that he moves on.
"It's sad because he's well-loved at the club, but if he wants to play regular football, and it works for everyone, as well as getting a big chunk of wages off the wage bill, then I guess it's the right decision."
As Jason said, Bielik is a popular figure among Birmingham supporters, but it is difficult to see him featuring much in the Championship next season.
After the Blues' summer transfer business, Christoph Klarer, Eiran Cashin and Phil Neumann are all likely to be ahead of Bielik in the pecking order in the upcoming campaign, and Davies could even be set to bring in another centre-back amid reports that the club are close to agreeing a deal to re-sign Ben Davies from Rangers following his successful loan spell last season.
According to Capology, Bielik is estimated to be on £20,000-a-week at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, so offloading him would certainly free up space on the wage bill as Birmingham look to continue their summer recruitment drive.
