Joel Piroe would add plenty of Championship experience and firepower to Chris Davies' ranks
Birmingham City are in the thick of what could be a season-defining transfer window for Chris Davies and his squad at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, and one in which the club should seriously consider continuing to flex their muscles in terms of spending power and ambition.
Tom Wagner has continued to fund a well-documented rebuilding job at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, with Davies hoping to be the man in the dugout that leads Blues back into the Premier League for the first time in a generation.
In the past 18 months or so, the West Midlands outfit have dared to dream big on so many levels, which includes their upcoming 62,000-seater Powerhouse stadium that will be the centrepiece of the multi-billion-pound Sports Quarter regeneration project in East Birmingham.
As such, it is no real surprise that the project which Wagner continues to spell out his visions for, as well as a constantly ever-growing stream of revenue, that Birmingham's activity in the transfer market continues to generate plenty of headlines.
On the pitch, it has been a mixed opening half of the Championship campaign for last season's runaway League One champions, although, with the division still remaining extremely congested, Davies' men are only a matter of points away from the play-off spots with 19 games remaining.
The club's need for a successful transfer window has been widely discussed in recent weeks, with the 40-year-old already addressing his previous shortcomings at left-back with the acquisition of Kai Wagner from Philadelphia Union - a move which is already paying off after a goal and assist in the German's first two outings.
Blues are also set to add further midfield reinforcements with a move for Girona ace, Jhon Solis, whilst fellow highly-rated prospect, Abdoulie Manneh, has seen his previously expected move from Mjallby AIF ground to a halt at the 11th hour.
Another area of Davies' squad which could see change is his centre-forward department, with the former Tottenham Hotspur assistant currently able to select from Jay Stansfield, Marvin Ducksch, Kyogo Furuhashi and Lyndon Dykes.
However, the latter has been the subject of exit talk for some time now, despite his last-minute winners against Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City in the autumn.
As such, if the 48-time Scotland international is to depart, with Charlton Athletic, Ipswich Town and now Leicester City namedropped as potential destinations, Davies should be looking to add some proven Championship quality to compensate.

To his credit, the aforementioned Dykes has never let Birmingham down when called upon, but it is no surprise that the former Queens Park Rangers man is eyeing up a move that will see him receive the minutes in order to be a certainty in Steve Clarke's plans for the Tartan Army's World Cup squad in the summer.
Dykes, of course, has offered Davies a different dimension, particularly in tight contests, but the Blues boss has placed his understanding of the situation on record.
One criticism of Birmingham's summer transfer activity was that not all areas of the squad were packed out with proven Championship quality, although in Ducksch's and Kyogo's cases, they both came from the German and French top flight, albeit one of those deals is paying off way more than the other at present.
However, with it unlikely that another eight-figure sum would be parted with this window, Birmingham should be on red alert regarding Joel Piroe's situation at Leeds United, with the 26-year-old not entirely ruling out an Elland Road exit in the coming weeks.
Like Dykes, the Dutchman has only made two league starts this term, struggling to oust the likes of Noah Okafor, Lukas Nmecha and the in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
However, in the Championship, Piroe has rightfully earned a reputation for being one of the division's most potent goal-getters since the turn of the decade, scoring 73 times and providing a further 18 assists at the level for the Whites and his former club, Swansea City.
In the second tier, the £10m man has continuously showcased the attributes of a high-class centre-forward with his on and off-ball movement, the timing of his runs, the weight of his own pass and a knack for being in the right place at the right time, which would play into Blues' hands a lot.

Although a calf strain would see the duo unable to link up for a short while, IF Piroe moved to the Second City, he is the type of player who would love working alongside Blues' attacking outlets, namely Demarai Gray and Patrick Roberts.
The wide duo have, unarguably, represented the club's two best deals from the summer, with it being evident as to why they boast previous top flight quality, both in England and across Europe.
Both possessing experience, they are at the same stage of their career as Piroe, who has struggled for minutes in the Premier League despite earning the right to feature at the elite level given his Championship numbers.
Whilst some may be sceptical over a return to form, especially based on Kyogo's dry run which ended against Cambridge United last weekend, if Piroe was to net one or two early goals in royal blue, it could be the tonic needed for Birmingham to eventually secure a play-off berth come May.
