Birmingham City have completed the signing of Canadian international defender Marie Levasseur.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Blues earlier this afternoon.

The 29-year-old defender joins Birmingham City off the back of a spell playing her football in France with Montpellier HSC. Levasseur spent three years with La Paillade. She helped the club to retain their French Arkema Première Ligue status last season.

Prior to her spell with Montpellier HSC, Levasseur turned out for Quebec Dynamo ARSQ, ONS Oulu, FC Metz and FC Fleury 91.

On the international stage, Levasseur has been capped by Canada on 18 occasions.

After joining Birmingham City, Levasseur said “I’ve always wanted to play in the WSL. I think it’s one of the best leagues nowadays on the women’s side.

“I’ve heard about the project that the women’s side are doing and, talking with the coach and the staff, I feel like the team identity really speaks to me – fighting, being very team-orientated and that spirit.”

Levasseur is Birmingham City’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window. The Blues have also added Millie Turner, Lisa Naalsund and Jade Rastocle to their squad so far this summer. Plenty more business is expected before the new season kicks-off.
