After the U19 and U17 teams each celebrated 1-0 victories over FC Schalke 04, the U23s are now set to face their local rivals early in the season. Despite significant roster turnover over the summer and a small squad during preseason, the U23s have performed remarkably well so far. Two unfortunate draws in Bochum and against 1. FC Köln (both 1–1), as well as two wins in Bergisch Gladbach (3–1) and in Hilden (2–0), give cause for optimism ahead of the derby. The Regionalliga match will be a showdown between the neighbors in the standings. The fourth-place team from Gelsenkirchen, with one more game played, sits just ahead of BVB (eight points) with nine points.

Tuesday, September 1 (8:45 p.m.): HEBC – BVB BVB will take the field at Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion for the first-round match in this year’s DFB Pokal. The Black and Yellows are clear favorites against Hamburg’s Oberliga side HEBC and are looking to build on their successful Bundesliga opener at home against HSV (2–0) with another victory. More than 40,000 tickets have already been sold for the matchup between the fifth-division team and the German runners-up.

Saturday, September 5 (3:30 p.m.): TSG Hoffenheim – BVBHoffenheim lost 2–3 to 1. FC Köln on Matchday 1. The BVB first team, on the other hand, is heading to the Kraichgau region on a high after their 2–0 victory over Hamburger SV and is looking to get off to a perfect start to the season. Last season, Hoffenheim won ten of its 17 home games and also claimed a 2–1 victory in their home match against BVB.

Saturday, September 5 (4:00 p.m.): BVB Women’s Handball – Team EsbjergAfter the women’s handball team got off to a strong start in the Alsco Handball Bundesliga Women, they’re now set to get down to business in the EHF Champions League as well. First up for head coach Kay Rothenpieler’s team in the European Cup is Team Esbjerg from Denmark. The most recent matchup between the two teams wasn’t that long ago. BVB and Team Esbjerg also crossed paths in the Champions League during the 2025–26 season. Back then, the Danish team defeated the Black and Yellows on the road, 31–24 (14–10).

Tuesday, September 8 (9:00 p.m.): BVB vs. FC VillarrealThe first UEFA Champions League match is coming up, and BVB will face a top team from Spain’s La Liga right off the bat. Last season, FC Villarreal finished a strong third behind FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, having made impressive progress along the way. Borussia Dortmund, however, intends to go all out for a home win to make a strong statement right from the start of the Champions League group stage. Wednesday, September 9 (7 p.m.): BVB Women vs. 1. FFC RecklinghausenIn the first round of the Westphalia Cup, the BVB Women will face a team from the Regionalliga West at Rote Erde Stadium. The match is sure to be a special cup night for BVB captain Alexandra Popp. The former national team player came up through the ranks at 1. FFC Recklinghausen and also played her first senior season for the FFC.

Saturday, September 12 (3:30 p.m.): BVB – SC Paderborn The BVB first team is looking to secure their second home win against SC Paderborn. This will be the third time the newly promoted team has visited SIGNAL IDUNA PARK as a Bundesliga opponent. The East Westphalians have never won in Dortmund. However, SCP pulled off a respectable result with a 3-3 draw in November 2019. Back then, Marco Reus didn’t equalize for the Black and Yellows until the 90th minute.

Saturday, September 19 (6:30 p.m.): VfB Stuttgart vs. BVBOn Matchday 4, the BVB first team travels to face VfB Stuttgart. The clash between the two Champions League participants is this weekend’s top match and is therefore scheduled for 6:30 p.m. BVB has repeatedly struggled against VfB in recent years, winning only one of their last eight meetings. Following Matchday 4, the first team will take a three-week break for international matches.
