A Black Country pub will not screen England’s World Cup bronze medal match against France on Saturday night after crowd trouble in recent fixtures.
The Cabin, in Alderwood Precinct in Sedgley, said in a Facebook post that doors would close ahead of the third-place play-off, which is scheduled to start at 10pm BST in Miami, with last orders at 8.45pm.
The pub expressed regret over the move but said protecting a family, community environment must come first. It added that violence, aggression, threats or intimidation would not be tolerated and that the steps were intended to keep the venue safe and welcoming.
It also said the actions of a few should not compromise the experience of regulars and thanked supporters for their understanding. Staff who have dealt with recent issues were said to deserve the chance to enjoy one match.
The Cabin has drawn big crowds to follow the Three Lions throughout the tournament. Fans had packed the pub off Northway for earlier fixtures, including the 2-0 group win over Panama on June 27.
