Blackburn Rovers midfielder Sidnei Tavares is ready to return to action, boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed.

The 24-year-old was absent from Blackburn’s final pre-season match against Huddersfield Town. However, he is now fit to return for their first competitive game of the season – a Carabao Cup First Round tie against Burton Albion.

“Sidnei was ill last week,” Mowbray revealed to RoversTV. “He didn’t play in our last game, so he’ll be back in the squad.”

However, Blackburn will be forced to continue without Scott Wharton, Dion De Neve and Moussa Baradji. All three remain sidelined with injuries, but Mowbray is hopeful that they will all be back in action soon. They will kick off their Championship campaign against Wolves next weekend.

The manager continued: “With the injuries, I’m not sure anyone with hamstring issues or thigh strains will be coming back for the game. But there are no major injuries and, within another week or two, I think we’ll have almost a full squad.

“I don’t sit here and think of it as a nightmare and we have lots of injuries. I’m thinking that it’s a great opportunity for other players.”
