Blackburn Rovers may have added a flashy new attacking signing in the form of Mathias Jorgensen, but they may need more than that if they're going to comfortably survive relegation from the Championship.

A €3.5 million deal for Jorgensen from Bodø/Glimt certainly came out of the blue on Thursday for Rovers fans, but it was a welcome one -and it came a couple of days after a more well-known player to EFL fans was being touted with a potential switch to Ewood Park.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Norwich City, Charlton Athletic and Blackburn are all interested in bringing versatile attacking midfielder Tom Lawrence - now at Perth Glory in Australia - back to the Championship, nearly four years after he left Derby County to join Rangers.

The Canaries' interest has been played down for the 32-year-old, who has scored five goals in nine appearances in the A League, but it is yet to be denied in Blackburn's circles.

Predominantly an attacking midfielder, Lawrence can also be utilised out wide, and this versatility could be extremely useful for Valerien Ismael at Rovers, as he looks to avoid relegation to League One with the Lancashire outfit.

Blackburn Rovers told they must bring Tom Lawrence to Ewood Park

The Wales international joined Perth Glory in October after his contract at Rangers came to an end in the summer. He's impressed greatly in Australia, and has attracted interest from not just clubs in the Championship, but other sides in the A League.

While Norwich look to have pulled out of the race, Football League World's Blackburn Fan Pundit, Simon Middlehurst, has told the club to do all they can to bring the midfielder to the club - especially as a past loan stint in 2015-16 when he was a Man United player means he already knows what it means to be a Rovers player.

Simon told FLW: "I think that Tom Lawrence would be a good signing.

"We desperately need attackers. He's got a lot of experience. He's got a lot of experience in the Championship.

"He also knows the club as well. He spent half a season on loan at Blackburn before, so I think it would be a really, really good signing. It's definitely what we need.

"We need a lot more experience. We need another attacking player desperately. He's also played at a decent level as well. So, I'd back that signing and I think it'd be a really good move for Blackburn."

Tom Lawrence's last Championship season was one of his very best

It's been four years since Lawrence's last season in the Championship, and arguably, it was his best in his career in the division as Wayne Rooney made him Derby's captain.

The then 28-year-old played 38 times for the Rams in the league in 2021/22, scoring 11 goals and registering five assists as his former side battled against administration with a 21-point deduction that had seen them all but relegated by November.

Nonetheless, Lawrence took responsibility on the pitch on a number of occasions to be the leader that Derby needed, particularly going forward, with his brace against Sheffield United in January 2022 a highlight.
