FC St. Pauli coach Alexander Blessin said he will not consider stepping down after Sunday’s 1-2 loss to Mainz left his side 17th in the Bundesliga with two matches remaining.
According to Hamburger Abendblatt, he accepted supporters have the right to boo him, asked that criticism be aimed at him rather than the players, and stressed the team now needs backing.
Blessin said he is not going to throw in the towel, insisted he believes they can achieve this together, and maintained a change in his position would not help, noting he would otherwise have spoken to sporting managing director Andreas Bornemann.
He added that they can only get through it together and that cutting out mistakes is essential.
President Oke Göttlich said there is currently no interest from the club in parting ways with Blessin.
St. Pauli are level on points with 16th-placed Wolfsburg, who occupy the relegation play-off spot. Blessin’s side visit RB Leipzig before hosting Wolfsburg.
