France look set to alter their goalkeeping hierarchy this month, a year out from a World Cup for which they are not yet qualified. According to L'Équipe, Mylène Chavas is favourite to start in Poland on Friday at 18:00, succeeding Pauline Peyraud-Magnin and Constance Picaud-Inconnu.

Chavas has just been named Première Ligue goalkeeper of the season by the UNFP and the LFFP after a standout year with Paris FC. A year after leaving Real Madrid for game time, the 28-year-old was recalled in October after two and a half years and remains on one cap.

Within the squad she reunited with Pauline Peyraud-Magnin and Constance Picaud-Inconnu, and met new goalkeeping coach Lionel Letizi. Head coach Laurent Bonadei has opened discussion over the number one with time short before a World Cup berth is secured.

Peyraud-Magnin, 34 with 76 caps, has struggled since leaving Juventus Turin for Denver Summit in February, and a summer move is not excluded. A late arrival in the United States meant she missed part of pre-season.

Abby Smith took the starting berth, and Bonadei flagged doubts over Peyraud-Magnin’s rhythm, noting she has played only three matches in six months, all with France, against Poland, 4-1, and the Netherlands, 1-2 and 1-1. She trained well this week but declined media duties.

Picaud-Inconnu, 27 with 14 caps, called the rivalry healthy and said all three are ready to start if needed. She started the 2-1 win in Ireland and will join West Ham this summer.
