The Merseysiders appear to have their eyes focussed firmly on the Bundesliga and TWO up-and-coming young attackers could provide the answers in next summer’s transfer window.
Yan Diomande is now a well-established Liverpool target. The RB Leipzig winger has enjoyed a breakout season in the German top flight and looks destined to move on just one year after joining for £18m from Leganes.
Liverpool have the edge in the race for the 19-year-old Ivorian - who looks destined to join given his previously declared admiration for the Reds.
Over at FC Koln meanwhile another teenage talent has been busy announcing himself in his debut Bundesliga campaign.
Said El Mala has recently been called into the senior Germany squad and is a sure bet for a career at the highest level. The 19-year-old - like Diomande - is under contract until 2030 and it will take a sizeable bid to dislodge him from the club.
“Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig and Said El Mala of Cologne have both been watched,” a report from Liverpool insider Lewis Steele reads.
“And Liverpool are in the process of drawing up a shortlist of targets.
“Diomande, who has seven goals and four assists this season, would command a big fee.”
Indeed it’s been claimed that Leipzig would seek to cash in for around £87m should Diomande leave next summer.
El Mala - who has scored more goals than Diomande this season - would probably not cost as much but a bidding war would still be expected.
Bayern Munich expect Diomande to join Liverpool and would put pressure on Koln to sell El Mala to them if that happens.
But the Reds could carry out a sensational Bundesliga double deal next summer - a market they know so well having brought in Frimpong, Wirtz and Ekitike from there last summer.
