Leeds United have suffered a transfer blow as Japhet Tanganga has informed his domestic suitors he wants to move abroad as his preference this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Tanganga, 26, has got his career back on track at Championship side Millwall after joining from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Lions could well lose him this summer though as he has a release clause set at just £1.2m in his Den deal, leaving them powerless to stop his exit.
Premier League sides have been alerted and Leeds are amongst them, with the Whites widely suggested to be ready to trigger the clause for Tanganga.
They are set to be disappointed though as domestic clubs ‘have been told’ that Tanganga wants a move to Germany or France.
He feels that heading abroad to either country would be the next best step in his career and it is what he wants to do.
The 26-year-old had a forgettable loan stint in Germany at Augsburg earlier in his career and is keen to try his luck on the continent once again.
Leeds are currently trying to wrap up an agreement with Italian side Udinese for the signature of Jaka Bijol.
They may want more than just one new centre-back though as they prepare for the challenges of the Premier League and aim to create a water tight backline with real depth in the squad.
Ex-Tottenham man Tanganga though now looks out of reach unless Leeds can cause him to have a late change of heart.
He came through the youth ranks at Tottenham and was hailed as a promising prospect when he broke into the first team.
There were some eyebrows raised when he left north London on a permanent basis and Millwall were his choice following a successful loan spell at the Den.
