Boca confirm who will manage the team after Miguel Ángel Russo’s departure

The Boca squad returned to training under a somber atmosphere due to the recent passing of Miguel Ángel Russo. The Xeneize head coach was mourned at La Bombonera on a day of mourning not only for the club, but for all of Argentine football.

His position as head coach did not remain vacant, as Juan Román Riquelme decided that Miguel Ángel Russo’s assistants would continue in charge. This means that Claudio Úbeda will remain the main head coach of the team and will be accompanied by Juvenal Rodriguez. The coaching staff is completed by Adrián Gerónimo as the main physical trainer, assisted by Cristian Aquino, and the goalkeeping coach is Cristian Muñoz.

Claudio Úbeda will be Boca’s head coach until at least the end of the year.

This was confirmed by Juvenal Rodríguez in statements to ‘El VBAR Caracol’: “For now, Claudio (Úbeda) will be the team’s coach, I’ll be the assistant, surely until this tournament ends. After that, the club and the board will decide which path to take. But for now, we will continue Miguel’s legacy until December.”

On the other hand, the assistant described what his work was like recently with Russo confined to his home: “Every day, Claudio and I would go to tell him what we did in training so he could know, because he was Boca’s coach, so we made him part of the day-to-day, because that’s how we felt.”

He also revealed some chilling details: “He never showed pain. I remember a few days ago I asked him what he wanted, if we should continue, if we should leave, if we should resign. And he answered me as always, as he did with every decision in his life: ‘calm down, nice and easy. I’ll talk to Chelo,’ referring to Marcelo Delgado. And then I realized that he didn’t want to, and that he was going to leave everything as it was. He wanted to finish as Boca Juniors’ coach. I have no doubt.”
