Boca Juniors have agreed to sign Álvaro Montero from Vélez, with the Colombia keeper at the 2026 World Cup. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Boca will pay about 4 million dollars for a deal spanning four seasons.
The move stems from Millonarios loaning him to Vélez for 400,000 dollars early this year. Vélez then activated a 1.4 million dollar option before selling his full rights to Boca.
Under Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Montero adapted quickly to Argentine football and impressed in the league.
The push for a new No 1 followed Agustín Marchesín’s injury and a transitional spell in which Leandro Brey did not fully nail the role.
He will report after Colombia’s campaign ends. A verbal agreement is in place, pending documents and an official announcement.
Once his international duty ends, he will travel for a medical, sign, and join tactical work for the second half of the year. After adding Uruguayan right-back Leandro Lozano, Boca plan to strengthen at centre-back, in central midfield, out wide and at centre-forward.
