Boca: Merentiel to miss opener against Deportivo Riestra | OneFootball

Miguel Merentiel has suffered a right calf tear, ruling him out of Boca Juniors’ Torneo Apertura opener against Deportivo Riestra. According to SuperDepor.com, tests on Monday confirmed the injury after he went off early in the win over Olimpia de Paraguay.

The Uruguayan forward, nicknamed La Bestia, left that match in San Nicolás with a muscle complaint. He will be sidelined for the next four or five fixtures.

The blow is a significant setback for coach Claudio Úbeda. Edinson Cavani and Milton Giménez are also sidelined.

With Merentiel, Cavani and Giménez out, Lucas Janson would be the likely starter up front for the meeting with the Malevo. He impressed after coming on against Olimpia de Paraguay.

The Apertura debut at La Bombonera is scheduled from 18.30.
