Boca have opened talks to sign Edwin Cetré from Estudiantes after his move to Athletico Paranaense collapsed, according to LaNumer12.com.ar.

The Colombian winger returned to training with Estudiantes after what had looked an imminent transfer fell apart. Although he had travelled to Brazil, disagreements over final terms between Estudiantes and the Curitiba club halted the deal.

Reports of a failed medical or fitness issues circulated after talks stalled, but sources directly involved in the negotiations said those claims were false.

An initial agreement was set at 6 million dollars net for the full registration. Estudiantes share the player’s rights with Independiente Medellín, who hold the remaining 50% and had already approved the sale.

Late differences emerged over finances and payment structure, which proved insurmountable. Boca are now exploring a deal as a result.

Relations between the clubs remain smooth after the transfer of Santiago Ascacibar, and dialogue is not expected to be an obstacle. Despite supporter unrest over Ascacibar’s exit, Estudiantes’ board are prioritising finances to address a deficit in their last accounts.

Further updates are expected in the coming hours on Boca’s interest and whether they move quickly to secure Cetré, who would join Claudio Úbeda’s team.
