According to Sitiboca.com.ar, the 38-year-old goalkeeper sustained a serious left-knee injury in early March against Flamengo and underwent surgery, ruling him out of the competition, including this match.

Cássio has repeatedly frustrated Boca in continental knockouts, notably with Corinthians in 2022 when a penalty shootout ended the Argentines’ run. He has faced Boca 10 times, returning four wins, four draws and two defeats.

His absence offers some respite, yet Boca must still contend with playing in Brazil and the traditionally hostile setting.

Even without Cássio, the challenge remains demanding. Boca will now aim to push on and advance in the Libertadores.
