Bodø/Glimt would be looking for more money than Celtic could be willing to pay for striker Kasper Høgh…

The Bhoys are said to have revived interest in the Denmark international, following an extremely successful campaign last year, which saw him net five goals in the UEFA Champions League – including a brace against cash-rich English Premier League club Manchester City.

Celtic had been monitoring the big centre-forward back in the January transfer window, when Martin O’Neill was looking for quality reinforcements up-front. Instead, the manager ended up with Tomas Cvancara on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach and Junior Adamu from SC Freiburg on a temporary basis too.

Despite driving the side over the finishing line in May against Hearts at Celtic Park, in a result that saw a major meltdown take place within Scottish football and certain circles elsewhere, it is clear that the manager needs a major injection of new blood in the squad to avoid us going backwards at a dangerous rate.

On the subject of Høgh though, Radio Sporten have revealed that there is minimal interest now in selling the player on Bodø-Glimt’s side, as they are financially sound after their UEFA Champions League journey last season in European football.

The publication also made the revelation that due to these factors that are at play, the Norwegians would be looking for a fee that would unlikely be matched by the Bhoys and would now be higher than the £7m that had previously been quoted.

As it stands, that is all merely conjecture and hearsay at this point, as nobody knows for sure what the club’s intentions are in this window.

With the club failing to secure Kelechi Iheanacho on what weren’t outrageous terms, there is little belief that CEO Michael Nicholson and the rest of the Celtic Board can turn the tide in this current transfer window and bring about the necessary change to make us competitive in Europe once more under Martin O’Neill.

If Celtic want to bring in Kasper Høgh the price looks like being similar to the transfer fee that Celtic will receive from Ipswich Town for talisman Daizen Maeda, who will be going through his medical today ahead of finalising his transfer to the recently promoted Premier League club.

We’ll still watch for developments with this one though and it’s going to be a chance for Celtic to show some ambition and back the manager. It would also give the support a reason to acknowledge something positive coming from the work of Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay.

Yesterday on Celtic Shorts my colleague Mark Dixon gave credit where credit was due to Interim Chairman Brian Wilson. It would be great to read him doing something similar regarding the CEO and CFO after they splashed the cash to bring in the Danish striker. It would be money well spent.
