Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci has confirmed that the club plan to proceed with Vincenzo Italiano as the head coach amid AC Milan links.

With the cup final now in the rear view mirror and a dismal campaign drawing to an end, Milan must begin planning for next season. One of the things they will have to make a call on is the head coach, with Sergio Conceicao almost certain to depart the club after just six months.

One of the names that is being linked more and more frequently is that man whose side inflicted pain on the Rossoneri at the Olimpico: Vincenzo Italiano. This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport named him as the ‘strong candidate’ to potentially take over.

Fenucci gave an interview to Sky to reflect on the Coppa Italia win but also to answer questions about the futures of some key figures at Bologna, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

What can you tell us about Italiano’s future?

“He has a contract and a very solid relationship with us. We have learned to appreciate the man, the professional was already known because he has done very well wherever he has gone.

“This year was more difficult, because he was joining a group that had fulfilled itself both individually and as a group last season. After some initial difficulties, which were expected, he managed to bring out the best in the players and a great and extraordinary season was born.”

What is Bologna’s project?

“The project is to continue to grow, to be competitive. It also means continuing to improve things: if some player were to leave, as can happen for any team, there is work behind that will allow us to strengthen ourselves adequately.

“However, it is early to talk about it, the desire is to be competitive in Europe too if we manage to get back to that level.”
