Yann Sommer could make a speedy return for the Champions League round of sixteen second leg between Feyenoord and Inter Milan.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. They report that the 36-year-old’s recovery from thumb surgery is going faster than expected.
Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer has missed his team’s past few matches.
The Swiss suffered a thumb fracture in training a couple weeks ago. This resulted in Sommer needing to undergo surgery to fix the problem.
Sommer has been out for Serie A matches against Genoa and Napoli. He also missed last week’s Coppa Italia clash with Napoli.
Josep Martinez has gotten a run of starts in the team in place of Sommer.
Sommer will certainly miss at least a couple more matches.
The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach veteran is still recovering from his thumb surgery.

Therefore, Sommer will not be available against Feyenoord for tomorrow’s Champions League round of sixteen first leg. Nor will he have any chance of playing against Monza on the weekend.
However, a return for Yann Sommer may be closer than had initially been anticipated.
Previous reports indicated that Sommer was targeting a return against Atalanta in Inter’s last Serie A match before the international break. That would be the earliest realistic return date.
However, reports Sky, the Swiss’s recovery has gone very well so far. Thanks to a special brace for his thumb, he is right on track.
Therefore, the broadcaster anticipates, Sommer could already be back in the team for the second leg of the Feyenoord tie next week.
