Boost for Real Madrid winger set to return against Getafe | OneFootball

Kylian Mbappe’s injury and subsequent absence for the clash against Benfica came as a massive blow for Alvaro Arbeloa’s side, but was compounded by the fact that even Rodrygo Goes was unavailable.

The Brazilian star, after all, has been out of action since the team’s win over Rayo Vallecano early this month where he came on for the final 15 minutes of the game.

Later, he was diagnosed with tendinitis and kept out of the team’s squad to face Valencia, Real Sociedad, Osasuna and both legs of the clash against Benfica.

Set to return

Earlier this week, the player returned to group training and there was optimism that he would be back to face Getafe.

Now, COPE confirm in a report that the Brazilian winger will indeed return in time for the game against Getafe on Monday at the Santiago Bernabeu and that he will be ready for any role Alvaro Arbeloa has for him on the night.

Needless to say, it comes as a massive boost to the manager’s plans at a time when Kylian Mbappe continues to be unavailable and the team needs new names to step up in attack.

With the Frenchman unavailable, it is not even ruled out that Rodrygo starts against Getafe on the night, likely alongside Vinicius Jr and Gonzalo Garcia. After all, Arbeloa has not trusted Franco Mastantuono too much in recent games.

So far this season, Rodrygo has made six starts and 18 appearances in La Liga for Real Madrid and has one goal and three assists to his name.

He has, however, not started a single game since the managerial change owing to a plethora of reasons including suspension and injuries, and will look to get going under Arbeloa now.
