Arsenal regularly play pre-season games against Boreham Wood, though they’ve tended to be u21 fixtures for the Gunners in recent years.

On this particular occasion, it’s unlikely many of the senior players would be available for a game anyway, given the overlapping World Cup tournament.

The World Cup kicks off on June 11th, but the final isn’t until July 19th, so any Arsenal players involved will still be overseas on the 17th.

Even those eliminated in the group stage would likely be unavailable, given the final group game is less than three weeks before July 17th. The players always get at least three weeks of holiday before joining in with pre-season, and they don’t generally play a match on their first day back.

So in this case, it’s basically a certainty that the first-team players won’t be involved against Boreham Wood. Even so, the game should be a chance to watch some of the next generation in action.

Arsenal have already had a couple of pre-season fixtures confirmed, with the Gunners to face Real Betis in Dublin on August 5th, and Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 16th.

Though Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League or the FA Cup, City’s FA Cup win means that Arsenal will either qualify for the Community Shield as league winners or as runners-up.

The rest will likely be confirmed in June, once it is known whether or not Arsenal will be involved in the UEFA Super Cup on August 12th (the winner of the Champions League against the winner of the Europa League).
