Borussia Dortmund sporting director Nils-Ole Book – speaking to North Rhine-Westphalia’s Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper – hasn’t completely ruled out a summer departure for Felix Nmecha amid continued interest from Newcastle United. Book acknowledged that exceptionally large offers can never be dismissed entirely, but considers a transfer during the current window highly unlikely.
Newcastle recently identified Nmecha as a potential replacement for Bruno Guimarães. L’Équipe reported that the Premier League club view the German international as their preferred midfield solution should Guimarães complete a proposed move to Arsenal.
Now that Arsenal and Newcastle have reportedly reached an agreement over the Newcastle skipper’s transfer to the Emirates, it is only natural to assume that more speculation linking the Bundesliga professional with the Magpies will emergeNo official Newcastle offer or direct negotiations with Dortmund have yet been reported.
Nmecha signed a contract extension through 2030 in March. The agreement reportedly contains an €80m release clause that becomes active in 2027 before dropping to €70m one year later.
Neither clause can be triggered during the present transfer window. Newcastle would therefore have to negotiate directly with Dortmund, who have reportedly placed an approximate €100m valuation on Nmecha for an immediate sale.
Book nevertheless expects the midfielder to remain with the club.
“I would consider that [a transfer] highly unlikely,” Book told RN. “Of course, there can theoretically always be astronomical sums, but in Felix’s case, I can pretty safely rule it out this summer.”
