As reported by multiple outlets, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Pascal Groß is set to return to Brighton in the January window.
The 34-year-old joined Dortmund in the summer of 2024 for €7m from the Seagulls, and during that time, he earned a call-up to the Germany squad for the 2024 Euros, where he featured in the first game against Scotland, but sat on the bench for the remainder of the tournament.
Sky Germany reports that the base fee for the midfielder is €2m, while there is also potential for add-ons worth €1m. Groß’s contract at Dortmund was set to expire in the summer.
At times, the 34-year-old has proven to be an important player for Dortmund, especially on the creative side, best displayed by his four assists in a 6-0 win against Union Berlin last season; however, in a Niko Kovac side that is a lot more willing to do a lot of running, it was evident that Groß is 34.
With Groß leaving the club, it now means Kovac’s midfield options are Felix Nmecha, Marcel Sabitzer and Jobe Bellingham, while Carney Chukwuemeka can also play a deeper role if needed.
This quartet will be able to fill in the physical aspect, but the creative side will still be lacking, which is why die Schwarzgelben are looking at trying to sign Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb in the winter.
