Borussia Dortmund reach agreement to appoint Niko Kovac | OneFootball

Sky Germany reports that Niko Kovac is on the verge of becoming Borussia Dortmund’s next head coach.

The Bundesliga side have reached an agreement with the former Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, AS Monaco and Wolfsburg coach until 2026. Initially, there was some hesitancy from Kovac because Dortmund initially only wanted to appoint the Croat on a six-month period with an option for a year, if successful.

But after a decisive meeting at a Dortmund restaurant today which was attended by Hans-Joachim Watzke and members of the supervisory board, an agreement was reached between both parties.

Prior to Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk, BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirmed to DAZN that the club ‘were on the home stretch’ when it came to appointing a successor to Nuri Sahin, who was dismissed after last week’s 2-1 defeat against Bologna.

Borussia Dortmund’s Lars Ricken confirmed earlier today that interim head coach Mike Tullberg would remain in the dugout for Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against Heidenheim, meaning Kovac will likely be in place for their league game against Stuttgart on February 8.
