Bosnia-Herzegovina cannot afford another slip-up when they face Qatar at Lumen Field in Seattle this evening.
Sergej Barbarez’s side showed real defensive discipline for more than an hour against Switzerland on matchday two before a late collapse — culminating in a red card and three goals in the final 16 minutes — turned a competitive contest into a 4-1 defeat.
The Dragons need to respond against a Qatar side that has been the tournament’s weakest team by almost every statistical measure. Three points would put Bosnia firmly in contention for a place in the round of 32.
Barbarez is forced into one defensive change. Tarik Muharemovic serves a suspension after his red card against Switzerland, with Dennis Hadzikadunic coming in to partner Nikola Katic at centre-back. Amar Dedic and Sead Kolasinac continue at full-back, with Nikola Vasilj in goal.
Benjamin Tahirovic and Ivan Sunjic anchor the midfield, providing the defensive foundation Bosnia need to build from. Kerim Alajbegovic and Amar Memic are expected on either flank, with both needing to deliver more consistent service into the final third than they managed against Switzerland.
Edin Dzeko and Ermedin Demirovic lead the attack. Dzeko has struggled to make his mark at this tournament, but he brings experience and penalty-box intelligence against a Qatar defence that has been the most exposed at the 2026 World Cup. Demirovic, alongside him, offers pace and movement to complement his captain’s hold-up play.
Bosnia-Herzegovina possible starting XI: Vasilj; Dedic, Katic, Hadzikadunic, Kolasinac; Alajbegovic, Sunjic, Tahirovic, Memic; Dzeko, Demirovic
The Group B fixture kicks off at 20:00 BST this evening, Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at Lumen Field in Seattle.
